Where to find relief from the heat
A network of neighbourhood places where residents can stop, rest and cool down when temperatures become too high. Libraries, associations, community activities and accessible public spaces are part of the network.
Choose how you want to explore Parma's climate shelters.
Tell us where you are and we will suggest the closest climate shelter, its opening hours, activities and estimated walking time.
Open the map straight away to see where indoor and outdoor climate shelters, drinking fountains and accessible areas are located.
The project follows an integrated approach, combining climate adaptation, spatial analysis and community engagement to build a socio-climatic infrastructure at neighbourhood level.
Climate shelters are conceived as a proximity urban system, bringing together indoor facilities, outdoor green spaces and supporting services into a coordinated network accessible to residents.

Heatwaves are becoming more frequent and can affect health, especially for older adults, children and vulnerable people. Nearby cool places help reduce risks and make the neighbourhood safer.
A place to pause, meet people, join activities or find useful information. Each shelter is different, but all belong to a network of welcoming places close to residents.
The project brings together the Municipality of Parma, AUSL Parma, local associations, organisations and neighbourhood activities to support a more resilient community.
The network was designed by combining territorial data with local knowledge collected through the Local Living Lab process, involving local stakeholders and community actors.
To support the assessment and planning of the network, an interactive dashboard was developed.
Use the address search above to locate the corresponding hexagon, check the estimated walking time and compare the current and future network.
Browse the network, compare scenarios and select a shelter to see more details.
Areas are classified according to the time (in minutes) needed to reach the nearest shelter by foot.
