MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (MTCI)

Meris Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (Dash and Curran, 2004)

It is calculated as the normalized difference between Sentinel Bands 8A (NIR) 4 and 5. It makes use of bands in the so-called “red edge”, which is a spectral area across the red and the NIR. It is sensitive to chlorophyll content, and it is used to monitor canopy senescence and phenology.

The output image is masked to include only the pixels that are valid in the corresponding NDVI image.

The index formula is defined as:
(B8a - B5) / (B5 - B4)
